I know this post is long, but if you actually get to the end, there is a story that makes it totally worth it! AMY DO NOT SKIP TO THE END. I so know you.
Another Sunday down, and this week it started extra early. That's right, the bishop asked to meet with us. A little check in on our life and one calling extended. I am now, an Activities Day Leader. When he asked me, I was pretty much thinking, "What is that?" I asked if it had to do with the young women and he said yes, which kinda freaked me out a little. You see, I am still intimidated by teenage girls. But, no worries there, these young women will be between the ages of 8 and 10. That I think I can do. Fingers crossed anyways....Lets not forget, I am one of the least active people ever.
Denice has been taking Aubrey to Sharing Time for me while I attend my "Marriage" Sunday School class. Even though she struggles with going, and refuses for the most part to participate, when she comes home I hear her singing the songs. I love it. Anyway, Denice is away on a cruise so I took Aubs myself today. Holy cow I had so much fun! The women in there are fantastic! It was super fun and I was entertained the entire hour. Aubrey got called on to hold up a sign, I was so surprised when she actually did it and even more surprised when I realized she was crying! Kids are supposed to love this stuff! Nope, she was crying and she was even standing so close to me I could still touch her! I need to teach that girl to loosen up... A story was told about President Monson. When he was a boy he wanted a train for Christmas. His mother got him this really nice expensive train. She also bought a wind up train for the boy next door whose family didn't have much money. Well, when President Monson saw that the little boy's train had a tank car that his didn't he told his mom he wanted that car. His mom asked if he was sure, reminding him that his train was much nicer, and that the other little boy didn't have much. But President Monson was sure he wanted it. Later when they took the little boy his train and they saw how excited he was and how much he loved it, President Monson went home, got the tank car he had kept and gave this little boy one of the special cars from his brand new train too. The point of the story for the primary kids was giving. I took away the role of his mother in the story. If Colton would have told me he wanted someone elses toy who had less than we did, I would tell him how sad it made me, how he should be grateful for what he has, I would never have let him keep it. But President Monson's mother allowed him to learn, to decide, to grow. I hope I will keep this story with me, that I will remember to let my kids learn through their own experiences. I think maybe I should pay more attention to these stories, to learn from the mothers of truly great men.
The Relief Society lesson today was on charity, but we also talked for awhile on forgiveness. I made a comment in class about forgiveness, which is kinda funny considering how greatly I struggle with that particular principal. That is my second week in a row commenting. Crazy right? As soon as I raise my hand, my face gets hot and I feel myself getting red. I shake a little too. My voice is all wobbly, and I can barely get my thoughts out. I am nervous just reliving it right now. Alicia told me after wards not to worry, people who don't really know me probably just think I am really emotional, and touched. Jokes on them then....Here is the second thing I almost commented, but I just couldn't make myself look like an idiot twice in one lesson. So, all these women are sharing their experiences of service, you know the ones where they just felt like they should do something and then found out later how that someone they did it for just really needed that. They were encouraging all of us to listen to those personal promptings. The whole time I kept thinking...here is my personal problem with service. When I know I have done something really nice for someone, or someone has said thanks that is just what I needed, I get all "Puffed Up in the Chest" so to speak. Like, ah yeah. I'm good. BUT, what saves me from myself is the fear of being humbled. So, I try real hard to keep these child size feet on the ground. Good thing I am so comfortable being mediocre...
All in all, I had a pretty good day. I kinda started the day all grumpy and hard of heart, but after listening to those kids sing today, put things right back into perspective.
Ok, so the big moment everyone has been reading for............................................................................................................................................I walked out of the bathroom with my skirt tucked in to my spanks. Yep. I totally did. And, there was a man right outside the bathroom across the hall. He pretended not to notice. I didn't get to far, maybe 3 or 4 steps, but THANK GOODNESS I tried to smooth my skirt, that is when I felt a lump in the back. I just walked backwards right back into the bathroom, pulled out my skirt, and walked out with my head held high...Praying no one really saw but the little girl washing her hands.
And there you have it! Thank you for sticking with me for another long post.
