On Sunday Aubrey ran around ALL day at my mom's. I'm talking summer dress, no shoes, no coat kind of run around and play. Then at about 5 o' clock she started to say her ear hurt, but she said Tyson hit her with something on the ear. That is usually her go-to story. I thought maybe it stemmed from Colton getting his ear sliced open by a ginormous frisbee thrown by his 9 year old cousin. It of course was an accident, they were playing catch. Either way, his ear looked nasty and it cut it good enough we could see cartilage. We kept an ice pack on it and within about 20 minutes he was back outside running around. But back to the actual point of the story. Aubrey. Well, she fell asleep in the car on the way home and was pretty much comatose for the rest of the evening except when she would come to a bit and start wailing for me. And when she puked. Twice. Luckily we had some ear drops for the pain from when Addy had an ear infection so we made it through the night ok. So we were off to the dr's in the morning and sure enough, she has a pretty bad infection and the doc thinks her ear drum may have ruptured. So one prescription later... and here comes my favorite part, she hates taking medicine!! What a surprise!! Something else for one of my children to be difficult and have issues about. She actually hadn't needed antibiotics since 2007! Crazy right? So far she has cried under a chair, that time was after I told her if she didn't take her medicine and get better people would think I was a bad mom and then take her away from me, told me she had to go poop and then sat with her feet against the bathroom door for awhile, said she had to go potty, and has made many attempts to run and hide. Finally tonight she actually took it with out crying. We were 'practicing' taking our medicine so good so we could show grandma lo and get to go to the toy store. Bribing grandparents are top notch. This just might be the wrong kid to bribe though, her list is getting pretty long...

I actually start to break out in a sweat and the shakes when I think my kid is going to have to take medicine. Seriously. I can't tell you the pain and agony we've gone through to get them to take it. Kenzie now (of her own free will, she IS almost 9) chooses to get the antibiotic shot at the doctor over taking the nasty goop they call medicine. If only we could get her to learn how to swallow pills, but that's a whole 'nother story... Good luck! Hopefully you got the 3 day kind over the 10 day...that REALLY sucks.
poor aubs! it breaks my heart when she is not her spunky self. when an infection can kick the prince-ass right outta ya that's saying alot about how miserable she feels. :( tell her I LURVE HER!!!!
Ear infections have been the bane of my existence over at our house. I swear both my kids get them just by mentioning the word around here. And bribery really is the only way to go. And if grandparents end up paying for it? All the better! :)
If you get your perscription filled at target they give you a chart to mark off they days they took the meds, then they get to take the chart back and pick out a prize. Also Walgreens can add flavor for a few bucks, so worth it! Can you tell I have trouble with getting kids to take meds too?? :)
Poor Aubs! I love that you get her to take her meds by terrifying her into thinking strangers are going to come steal her away if she doesn't. That's ALMOST as good as Bill's mom calling the orphanage when they were being bad, or Santa to tell him not to come to their house that year. Gotta love parenting.
Gotta love the grandchild that tells the Grandma who is promising her something really fun to do if she takes her medicine like a big girl, to go to the store and bring back what she wants all by myself!!:) Pops is somethen else:)
